The Aberdeen Academy of Dance is run by Sarah MacNay. At a young age, Sarah started her dance training with Anne Forsyth, as a pupil of the Aberdeen Academy of Dance. She later gained a BEd (Hons) Primary and simultaneously trained as a Royal Academy of Dance ballet teacher. Sarah became principal of the Aberdeen Academy of Dance in 2007 and continues to work part time as a primary school teacher in Aberdeenshire.
The pupils of the Aberdeen Academy of Dance have performed in locally in many Qdos pantomimes, including Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, Cinderella, Jack and the Beanstalk, Peter Pan, Sleeping Beauty and Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Last summer a group of pupils performed in the Aberdeen International Youth Festival. Pupils of the Aberdeen Academy of Dance will be performing on their 4th Mediterranean Cruise in July 2017.
Many pupils have gone on to study full time and are now performing locally and abroad.
Sarah choreographs for local theatre. She choreographed Attic shows Robin Hood and Babes in the Wood, Sleeping Beauty, Dick Whittington, Aladdin and Little Shop of Horrors for the Tivoli Theatre and the Aberdeen Student Shows, Spital Shop of Horrors and Wullie Wonkie and the Fine Piece Factory.
